Walk Away

So I’ve been living in London for just over 4 months now and so far my experiences in commuting have been largely good. Though I must confess my journey on the tubes takes literally 5 minutes and avoids the central zone 1 area completely. However there have been two instances when the tube has failed completely for me and I’ve had to resort to walking to work.

The first time unfortunately happened on my first day working in London. And to make things worse I had to carry a PC into work (a long story cut short, I wanted to use a machine with 2gb memory). Also I took a slightly longer route due to my limited knowledge of the roads to work so arrived at work after an hour so of walking. Carrying a PC. In the quite warm September morning. A great introduction to the capital.

The second occurred tonight. While waiting at Chiswick Park, my viewing of Futurama on the iPod was interrupted by the announcement that all Westbound district line services had been suspended. After arriving home I checked that the official TFL status on the delay on the District Line was:

Major delays are occurring due to a person under a train earlier at Barons Court.

Kind of raises more questions then answers. Anyway there are no real direct buses to my house, so I took the decision there and then to just walk.

All and all it took about 40 minutes from Chiswick Park via Ealing Common to my door. Not that bad really and it could have been quicker too if it wasn’t for having to wait at the level crossing for a few minutes.

So positive my journey was it has made me consider doing it again in the future. Particularly as I’m quite anal about getting from one place to another quickly, timing myself in the process. When I first moved to London I was slightly pleases with myself when I calculated my journey from home to my desk can be made in 22 minutes.

But of course for now I’ll stick to the tube. And wait until it gets a bit lighter. And warmer. And less rain too.

Flickr Statto

I noticed over the holiday period that Flickr have introduced stats for Pro users, but it wasn’t until today that I managed to have a play about. To activate, you need to select ‘Your Stats’ underneath the ‘You’ dropdown in your account. Normally takes 24 hours to fully activate. For the stats overview, its mostly simple stuff like most viewed, favourites and as pictured above, an idea of recent visitor numbers. Clicking on a photo and then the stats link and you get more info, including how many views in the past month, week, day.But of course the fun is looking at the referrers…I’ve discovered that an image search for ‘empty glass‘ in Yahoo! brings up a (very old) mobile picture I took a few years ago.The 4th result of Boba Fett brings up Lee’s Boba Fett Star Wars figure trapped in a pint glass (with Jamie reading in the background). Finally an article features a photo I took in Amsterdam a few years ago. Would my mother be proud that a photo I took be featured in an article on scoring mushrooms? I hope so.

Flickr is having strange issues at the moment. I’ve just uploaded a huge bunch of photos tonight and encountering various errors. I hope that it wasn’t me that broke it…

Or if it was the fact I changed my Flickr display name to Peter π

Or if I changed my display name to Dr Zoidberg:

Now that couldn’t be it? Can it?

The Wait Out

Anyone that knows me, will of course know I am a massive Seinfeld fan, getting hooked as I had to write my dissertation and somehow managing to watch every episode in 7 months.

Of course I’ve since then spent the last three years collecting the first 8 seasons on DVD, but instead of getting the final season that has recently come out I’ve sneakily managed to (hopefully) secure a bargain in ordering the Complete Collection for the small sum of £27.00. Thats roughly the same price of season 9 alone! The Complete Collection comes in some snazzy packaging alongside The Official Coffee Table Book. Plus it’ll free up some room on my DVD shelf.

It’s surely a misprice and it is now out of stock, but as we speak my order still stands and is expected to be delivered in the first week of Jan.I’m just hoping Tesco will honour it. And if they do… who fancies buying Seasons 1-8 on DVD?

Race: In

A new hope.

So this is the situation, I need a fresh start from blogging , jumped ship from Blogger to WP, need a blogging platform that doesn’t involve me to mess about with too much (i just ain’t got the time for CSS these days).

Now let’s just see how this goes …
